北海の砂地、8度。カレイの仲間のプレイスという魚。砂に潜ると全く目立たない。でも、泳いでいる姿は、美味しそうにしか見えない。煮付けにして、熱燗でいっぱいやりたくなる。冷やして煮こごりにしてからだと、もっと合うかもしれない。
North Sea sand, 8 degrees. A fish called plaice, a member of the flounder family. When it dives in the sand, it is not noticeable at all. But when it swims, it looks nothing but delicious. It makes me want to boil it and drink a lot of hot sake. It might go even better if I cooled it down and boiled it before serving.
カナダの西岸、13度の海。綺麗なピンクは、ストロベリーアネモネという珊瑚の仲間。白い方は、ホワイトブルーアネモネで、こちらはイソギンチャクの仲間。もともとものが違うのに、とても綺麗でよく似ている。こんなに違うものでも共生ができているのに、人間はいがみ合ってばかりで、とても醜い面を見せている。ここにカサゴの仲間ををいれても、ほら、全く違和感がないでしょ。
West coast of Canada, 13 degree sea. The beautiful pink one is Strawberry Anemone, a coral species. The white one is a white blue anemone, which is a member of the anemone family. Although they are originally different, they are very beautiful and look very similar. Even though they are so different, they are able to live together symbiotically, but humans are always fighting with each other, showing their very ugly side. If you put the scorpionfish in here, you see, it doesn't look strange at all, does it?
南シナ海、25度の海。この子たちは、ただずっと泳いで、食べて、死んでゆく。自分と色もカタチも違う個体にいつも出逢っているのだろうけど、食料にならなければ攻撃することはない。なのに人間は、どうして違うと言うだけで殺し合うのか。生きるために食べるわけではないのに、殺し合うのか。あまりに魚が多いので、さらにイトヨリと間違えた、フエフキダイをあしらってみた。
South China Sea, 25 degrees. These youngsters just swim, eat, and die all the time. I guess they are always encountering individuals that are different from themselves in color and shape, but if they do not become food, they do not attack. Why do humans kill each other just because they are different? We don't eat to live, but we kill each other. Since there were so many fish, I added a snapper that I mistook for an itoyori.
オーストラリア西岸、25度の海。よく言われるタツノオトシゴ、正確にはヨウジウオというらしい。ここに住むヨウジウオはちょっとひれが大きめのウィーディ・シードラゴンとビッグベリード・シーホース。どうして、龍と馬になったのかは不明だけど、じっと見ているとそんな風に見えてくるのが面白い。ウィーディ・シードラゴンは、今回赤ちゃんが生まれたのだとか。
West coast of Australia, 25 degree sea. The seahorse is often referred to as a seahorse, or more precisely, as a horsehair fish. The seahorses that live here are the Weedy Sea Dragon and the Big-Bellied Seahorse, both of which have slightly larger fins. I don't know how they became a dragon and a horse, but it is interesting that they look like that when you look at them closely. We heard that Weedy Sea Dragon had a baby this time.
ハワイ沿岸、25度の水中。ハワイの海らしく魚を増やしてみた。バタフライフィッシュはさすが南の島を代表する華麗な魚たちだが、最近では千葉でもよく見かけたりする。温暖化が進んでいるのだろうか。黄色い帯の魚はベラの仲間でサドルラス、斑点のある魚は、ふぐの仲間で、ハワイアン・ホワイトスポッテッド・トビー。とてもあたりまえな名前なので、笑える。
Hawaiian coast, 25 degree water. I added more fish as if it were Hawaii's ocean. Butterflyfish are indeed a representative of the South Island, but recently they are often seen in Chiba as well. Is it because of global warming? The yellow-banded fish is the saddle wrasse, which is a member of the wrasse family, and the spotted fish is the Hawaiian white-spotted toby, which is a member of the globefish family. The names are funny because they are so obvious.
グレートバリアリーフ、25度の海。さすが世界一のサンゴ礁、いつもよりたくさんの魚で、たくさんの変化をつけてみた。ヤガラがちょっとひょうきんに見えてくるのが面白い。ヤガラは、ほそ長い口と頭を支えるために進化した脊椎骨を使って、エサをねらい撃ちする。さらに仲間としてはヨウジウオ目なので、意外にもタツノオトシゴは、親戚筋にあたる。高級魚なので、陸上では料亭あたりでしかお目にかかれない。
Great Barrier Reef, 25 degree sea. As expected of the world's largest coral reef, we tried to make a lot of changes with more fish than usual. It was interesting to see the Fistularia looking a bit haughty. The Fistularia use their long, narrow mouths and vertebrae that have evolved to support their heads to strike at their prey. They are also related to the seahorse, which is surprising since they are in the order of the sea slugs. Because it is a high-class fish, it can only be seen on land at high-class restaurants.
オーストラリア南部のちょっと冷たい15度の海。岩の上に佇むカサゴの仲間、ウエスタン・レッドスコーピオン・コッドは、撮影中もまるで岩のようだった。何か瞑想にふけっているのだろうか、それとも世界平和を考えているのだろうか、他の魚が泳ぎ回る間も、笑えるほど全く動かなかった。肝の据わったヤツだ。その、キモ美味しいかもなあ。
A slightly cold 15 degree sea in southern Australia. A Western Red Scorpion Cod, a member of the scorpionfish family, perched on a rock, looked like a rock during the photo shoot. Perhaps he was meditating, or perhaps he was thinking about world peace, but he was laughably motionless while the other fish swam around. He had a lot of guts. I wonder if his liver could be delicious to eat.
紅海、25度の海。ここにいる魚は派手だ。これは、自分を目立たせ、毒を持っていて危険であることをアピールするためだと言われている。なんとも平和的な身の守り方ではないか。紅海の北側では今、人間たちの哀しい争いが続いている。この魚たちに学ぶことはないのだろうか。この中には、エンゼルフィッシュの名を冠する魚もたくさんいる。人間を救う天使はどこにいるのだろうか。
Red Sea, 25 degree sea. The fish here are flashy. It is said that this is to make themselves stand out and show that they are poisonous and dangerous. What a peaceful way to protect yourself. In the northern part of the Red Sea, humans are currently engaged in a sad struggle. Is there anything to be learned from these fish? Many of these fish bear the name of angelfish. Where are the angels that save humans?
インド洋、25度の海。デバスズメダイという、透き通るような体を持つ小さな魚が、群れをなしていた。オスは産卵後卵を守る健気なヤツらしい。それだけじゃ寂しいだろう、と思い、もう少し仲間を増やしてあげた。Photoshopで実装された生成AIは、この仲間を増やすような作業はちょっと苦手としている。というか、ちょっと不自然になってしまうのだ。やっぱり手作業が一番だ。
Indian Ocean, 25 degree sea. A school of small fish, called "blue green damselfish" with a translucent body, were swimming around. I heard that the male is a healthy guy who protects his eggs after spawning. I thought it would be a bit lonely, so I added a few more friends to the group. The Photoshop AI is not good at this kind of work, or rather, it becomes unnatural. Manual work is the best way.
地中海は意外と冷たい18度の海。この地中海の東の端っこでは、今でも殺戮が続いている。もっと驚くのは、世界がこのことに対してとても冷たいことだ。どの国も殺戮を辞めさせようとしていない。その間に民間人がどんどん殺されていく。
大きくて斑点のある魚は、ブロッチド・ピカレルという、スズキの仲間だ。スズキの仲間たちは、フィッシュイーターと呼ばれて他の魚たちをバクバク食べるので有名だ。まるで、中東やウクライナで起こっていることと同じように。
The Mediterranean Sea is a surprisingly cold 18 degree sea. On the eastern edge of this Mediterranean Sea, the carnage is still going on. What is more surprising is that the world is so cold about this. No country is letting up on the killing. Meanwhile, more and more civilians are being killed.
The large, speckled fish is a broached pickerel, a member of the sea bass family. The sea bass are known as fish-eaters and are notorious for gobbling up other fish. Just like what is happening in the Middle East and Ukraine.
